How to Apply for a Permit to Build a Detached Garage or Pool

If your home has a septic system, Clermont County Public Health must review and approve plans for the construction of a swimming pool or detached garage prior to issuance of a building permit. The purpose of this review process is to:

Applicants must submit the following information along with a completed Accessory Structure Approval Application Form. The application cannot be initiated without all required information.

  1. Tax Parcel Number
    To obtain your parcel number, please visit the Clermont County Auditor’s Office.
  2. Site Sketch
    Must be to scale showing the following:

    • Property boundaries
    • Existing house and existing accessory buildings
    • Driveway
    • Water well, cistern, or water service line
    • Location and perimeter of the area to be covered by the proposed new garage or pool
    • Existing septic tank location
    • Leach field or other existing sewage system components to the extent known
    • Any recorded easements including drainage/effluent easements

3. Zoning Permit
Obtain from your local zoning office.


Note: For our inspector to complete the application review, a site visit may be conducted.  The site must be clearly marked at the road with the job name and address. If an on-site inspection is required, a fee will be charged.
